"What's your deepest fear?"
"Why he keep saying that? 'What's your deepest fear?' What's that mean?"
We are given talents not so we can bury them to "keep them safe". We are granted these gifts to take a chance with each one of them.
CHANCE-
a possibility of something happening.
POSSIBLE-
able to be done; within the power or capacity of someone.
a person that has the potential to become something.
SOMEONE-
a person of importance or authority
IMPORTANT-
likely to have a profound effect on success
SUCCESS-
an accomplishment that makes one shine
SHINE-
something we are all meant to do...
"it's not just in some of us; it is in everyone."
EVERYONE-
includes
YOU
no professional athlete, at birth, was proclaimed to later become famous for their incredible ability to perform above so many others.
individually, they each had to decide and take a chance with their talent. and with enough self discipline get themselves where they wanted to be.
at that point..
no one could stop them.
I am the the greatest, i said that before i knew i was.
-Muhammad Ali
Athletics + Life = The Same Thing?
When things are difficult one of three things happen...
- you either become intimidated where you don't want to do anything, you say "well i can't win.."
- or you get frustrated and you get so upset cause you don't know how to turn it around.
- or else you become motivated
and when you become motivated you sit down and make sure your plan is going in the right way
Lou Holtz;
"Now that we are number one i assume our touchdowns are worth nine points?
they said no.
i said if we fumble do they give the ball back?
and they said no.
i said well what happens when you're having
success?
- people expect more out of you.
- people try to study your strengths and emulate them.
- you don't want to change... but you have to.
- you want to sit back and enjoy it.
- you wonder if you can keep going.
the worst thing that happens when you have success is you stop dreaming.. when you stop dreaming, you become the hunted, instead of the hunter
don't look at who you are now, look at where you want to go.
"you cant do this"
"you cant do that"
we hear this around us particularly when things are difficult and aren't going well.
- "i don't have a chance, i am not even going to try" = won't even get outta the chair to give it an effort
- "i know i can do it but it's not the right time, maybe some other time" = never gets done
- get involved, have a little bit of failure "oh i didn't know i was gonna get knocked down.." = quit
instead of looking for a way out, look for a solution.
(here's how)
1. Attitude
is a choice
Often lives change with a decision. A wedding, a new career, a family started, a move made, all change the course of our lives.
these decisions can determine our happiness or long sufferings in seconds.
Every day lives change with choices.waking up..on time, eating breakfast, grabbing your supplies for school, including your brain or not to that list, and how we are going to react to what the day brings us.
do these choices make us happy?
immediately? probably not.
but if we choose for it to make us happy, we determine our
Attitude,
our Happiness,
our Lives.
2. Passion
wanting to succeed.
Sacrifice
everyone makes sacrifices, willing or not, no one would be here today if at least for one sacrifice.
"Show me a successful mother, a father, a marriage, a coach, a player..and i know the sacrifices they had to make and they made them because they wouldn't be successful without it...
but
the losers.. don't think that's sacrifice, they thinks that's punishment..
you gotta lift weights
well if i don't have a dream and a goal and i don't have a passion to win..
lifting weights becomes
punishment.
If i don't have a dream, and goal, and a desire to graduate,
going to class becomes
punishment."
Persistence
you cannot look back.
"a man sat hit a stone with a hammer, one hundred and nineteen, one hundred and twenty.. on the one hundred and twenty first hit the stone broke. was the hundred and twenty first hit that broke the stone? no, it was the hundred and twenty hits that preceded it."
you will get knocked down but it is our persistence to gain passion every time we lift ourselves up that keeps us on the road to success.
No Excuses
people are already going to give you a hundred of them.. there is no need for you to give any.
3. Purpose
what are you trying to do?
don't complicate life, help other people, by doing that you help yourself.
"you're not selling anything, not asking for a hand out or favor,
you are trying to help people improve their life."
don't forget what you are trying to do. don't forget your sense of purpose.
things change, don't be so afraid that you change your purpose, change is needed, yes. but only to achieve your purpose. don't be a afraid of that.
"in 1878 they invented the type writer, but the problem they had with the type writer was if you typed too fast the keys stuck! so they were sitting around thinking 'how can we keep the keys from sticking?' and somebody said 'i know, lets hide the letters on the key pad. let's put A up here, and we'll stick B down here, they'll never think of looking for C up here, by the time they find D there's no way, and who would think of putting E, and then we'll really file them up if we put G up here,
"in 1878 they invented the type writer, but the problem they had with the type writer was if you typed too fast the keys stuck! so they were sitting around thinking 'how can we keep the keys from sticking?' and somebody said 'i know, lets hide the letters on the key pad. let's put A up here, and we'll stick B down here, they'll never think of looking for C up here, by the time they find D there's no way, and who would think of putting E, and then we'll really file them up if we put G up here,
and they'll have to look."
the purpose of this was that people would stop typing so fast.
the purpose of this was that people would stop typing so fast.
understand change but don't ever forget your purpose.
4. Dreamer
dreams are what makes life exciting!
selected one of the ten greatest speeches of all times was given by Martin Luther King,
"I Have A Dream"
it changed this world for the better.
would it have if he would have pronounced..."I have a strategic plan!"
that doesn't excite anyone, but dreams do.
everything great starts with a dream.
Even when you have success you can't stop dreaming, maintaing success is harder then dreaming of it.
obviously
but once you obtain success don't maintain it! Dream BIGGER!
the heart ache, pain, and physical discomfort you fell right now to win, is temporary.
it will be gone and you won't remember the pain at all.
but if you lose,
that mental picture will be with you for the rest of your life.
if you take the easy way out because you feel discomfort now, that pain will be gone instantly,
but the pain of loss and failure lives on with you forever.
"if you have a dream to graduate and you're in bed and the class is getting ready to start and you say
'Do i get up?
No
No
it's more comfortable in bed.'
and you stay in bed and you know what? you're gonna have to go to sleep tonight and every night the rest of your life! that isn't going to change,
but
if you get up
and go to class,
that discomfort will leave,
and
graduation will be with you
the rest of your life!
the pride, and the sense of doing something."
but failure stays with you, if you give up.
5. Believe in Yourself
"you're going to get 'nos', you are going to get rejections, you are gonna get people reticule you,
but
you gotta have faith in yourself.
Faith doesn't come from looks and it doesn't come from intelligence."
the faith you have in yourself lifts people up, otherwise your unself belief tears them down.
"And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
Do EVERYTHING to the Best of your ability.
Show people you care.
